Matt has been a teaching professional since 1995 and has taught more than 5,000 private lessons in his ten years at the Sports Bubble. His extensive background in golf includes several seasons as the head men's golf coach at North Dakota State University.

The Valley City native began his college golf career at North Dakota State, where he played a supporting role on the 1990-91 NCC champion men’s golf team that participated in the 1991 NCAA Division II national tournament. After transferring to Valley City State University, Johnson went on to become a three-time all-conference and all-district performer for the Vikings. He was also named an All-American Scholar-Athlete during his senior year in 1994.

After graduating from Valley City State, Johnson spent a year at the Professional Golfers Career College in Murrieta, California. Following his schooling, he worked as a golf professional in Valley City, Fargo and Wahpeton, North Dakota.

Matt lives in West Fargo with his wife Shelly and their son Nick.
