Matt has been a teaching professional since 1995 and has taught more than 5,000 private lessons in his ten years at the Sports Bubble. Additionally, he is currently the head coach of the women's golf team at North Dakota State University.

Matt was a three-time all-conference and all-district performer for the Valley City State University Vikings. He was also named an All-American Scholar-Athlete during his senior year in 1994.

After graduating from Valley City State, Johnson spent a year at the Professional Golfers Career College in Murrieta, California. Following his schooling, he worked as a golf professional in Valley City, Fargo and Wahpeton, North Dakota.
